Our home in the Oregon Cascades, provides us with peaceful days, and star-filled nights. We are grateful for fresh air, clean water, and enough space for our garden.

On the last night of the official tour, we were entertained by Garifuna cultural drummers. The Garifuna people are descendants of the Kalinago people who migrated to the Caribbean around 1000 ad from the Guianas in South America. In time, Cuba, Puerto Rico and Haiti were conquered by the Europeans, but this was not so in the Lesser Antilles which was occupied by the Kalingos. The small size of the islands was a great advantage to the natives. Their strategy of "strike and sail" was effective in holding off their enemy for many years.

The slave trade into the Caribbean brought a great change to the history of the Kalinagos. The slaves soon found out that the Kalinagos inhabited nearby islands, and it was just a matter of time until they escaped to seek refuge with them!
